Thelma K. Fickert, 88, of Hanover, formerly of Baltimore, MD, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2009, at the Brethren Home Community.
Born April 25, 1921, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Spoerer) Lyston.
Thelma retired from Baltimore Air Coil on February 1, 1985 after 20 years of dedicated service as a mail clerk.
She attended Shrine of the Little Flower Catholic Church when she still resided in Baltimore, MD. In her younger years, Thelma was an avid bowler and enjoyed doing ceramics and crocheting.
Surviving are two sons, Donald Fickert and wife, Bette, of Glen Burnie, MD, Fred Fickert, Jr. and wife, Patricia, of Forest Hill, MD; two daughters, Juanita Stitz, of Hanover, PA and Kathleen Malone and husband, John, of Woodbine, MD; a brother, Frank Lyston, of Towson, MD; two sisters, Doris Hines, of Street, MD and Marie Peters, of Kingsville, MD; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosalind Pessagno and Naomi Hudson.
A memorial service to remember the life of Thelma will be held at 10 am, Saturday, September 5, 2009, at Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, with The Right Rev. Council Nedd, II officiating. Inurnment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in honor of Thelma be made to The Brethren Home Community Good Samaritan Fund, 2990 Carlisle Pike, P.O. Box 128, New Oxford, PA 17350.
