Obituary
Born February 1, 1924, in Gettysburg, he was son of the late Roy R. and Ruth C. (Harbaugh) Hankey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M. "Suddie" Hankey and his siblings Robert, Anna Mae and Janet Hartman.
He worked with his Father at the Family gas station in Gettysburg and was a veteran having served with the US Army in the Quartermaster Serivce during WWII in the Pacific Theater.
Carl was a lifelong mechanic and worked for over thiry years at Quaker Oats in Shiremanstown, PA. He was a machine operator and often spoke very highly of his workmates and his company. When he wasn't working you could find him tinkering in the garage on projects, cars, machines, etc. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Dale Earnhart, Jr.
He enjoyed driving, boating, camping and traveling. He was often off visiting relatives throughout the country with Suddie and was a strong family man. He is survived by his children Jody Ruhlman, Robbin Long, Michael Hankey and Barry Ruhlman. He also kept close ties to his siblings. From a large Gettysburg family he is survived by Ralph Hankey, Helen Perry, Bill Hankey, Martin Hankey, Barbara McGrew, Jim Hankey, Ronald Hankey, Joyce Hankey and Larry Hankey. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, April 25, 2011, 10AM at St. Mathew Lutheran Church, 30 West Chestnut, Hanover, PA 17331. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
