Nadine A. (Sterner) Martin, 95, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Homewood Plum Creek. She was the wife of Robert F. Martin for 67 years, until his death on April 5, 2006.
Born July 16, 1919 in Pleasant Hill, she was the daughter of the late Gordon M. and Anna (Wise) Sterner.
Nadine was a lifetime member of St. David's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was active in WELCA, Sunday School and the PAL luncheon program.
She was employed at Jackson Shoe and then became a full-time wife and mother. She worked with her husband, Bob, for over 25 years in a pick-your-own strawberry business. Nadine had the privilege of christening the S.S. James C. Cameron on November 25, 1943 at the Baltimore Shipyard. She worked at the election polls in Penn Township for both the primary and general elections. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the former Parkville Fire Company and also the Pleasant Hill Fire Company.
Nadine is survived by two children, Gary E. Martin and his wife Nancy and Donna M. Weber and her husband Daniel; five grandchildren, Chad E. Martin and his wife Jenny, Misty S. McClain and her husband Paul, Todd E. Martin and his wife Monica, Lea Ridenour and her fiancAC. Eriks Janelsins and Molly Weber; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her four brothers, Lester, Leon, Herman and Russell Sterner, and her sister, Mary Jane Humphrey.
A funeral service will be held Friday, May 8, 2015, 2 PM, at Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with Rev. Faye Snyder officiating. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 PM at the Kenworthy Funeral Home prior to the service. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
