Harold L. Swope, 86, of Gettysburg, entered into God's eternal care, Thursday, January 7, 2010 at the Golden Living Center, Gettysburg, PA.
Born December 11, 1923, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Luther R. and Sadie M. (Copenhaver) Swope.
Harold graduated from East Berlin High School in 1941. He served his country faithfully in World War II as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He was awarded the Eastern African Middle Eastern Theater service medal with 2 Bronze Stars as well as the Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Harold farmed all his life and was a lifetime member of the East Berlin VFW Post 8846.
Harold is survived by three brothers, Clinton F. Swope Floyd M. Swope of East Berlin, PA, Francis H. Swope of Central City, PA, Floyd M. Swope of East Berlin, PA, three sisters, Anna C. Becker of Hanover, PA, Nelda A. Teal of East Berlin, PA, Lorraine M. Bolden and husband Russell of Hanover, PA, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Harold's life will be held 10 AM, Monday, January 11, 2010 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Karen Minnich - Sadler officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 9 -10 AM, Monday, January 11, 2010 at the funeral home. The Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard will provide Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in Harold's honor are made to the charity of your choice.
