Mildred L. Ernst, 98, of Hanover, PA, entered into God’s eternal care, Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Hanover Hospital, Hanover, PA.

Born December 17, 1917, in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel G. and Bertha M. (Leader) Szwoyer.  Mildred was the loving wife of the late Clyde D. (Cap) Ernst with whom she shared 53 years of marriage until his passing on April 2, 1994.

Mildred was a 1936 graduate of Eichelberger high School.  She was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Abbottstown, PA. 

Mildred volunteered at the Hanover Hospital and Park Hills Elementary School for many years.  She enjoyed painting and spending time with her family and friends.

Mildred is survived by her daughters, Sherry A. Stambaugh and husband Gordy of Abbottstown, PA and Penny Lee Miller and husband Bill of Hanover, PA; five grandchildren, Joel Stambaugh, John Stambaugh, Jim Stambaugh, Abbey Funk, and Jessie Gobrecht; five great-grandchildren, Meghan, Tessa, Ellen, Taryn, and Hallie.  She was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Szwoyer; and two sisters, Isabel M. Staiger and Etta Dietrich.

A service to celebrate and remember Mildred’s life will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Uble Frost officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA.  A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10:00-11:00AM, Monday, April 18, 2016 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mildred’s memory may be made to Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Center Square, Abbottstown, PA 17301.
