Mary McFarland

June 30, 1920 - August 2, 2007

Mary (Kessler) McFarland, 87, of Hanover, died Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Hanover Hall. She was the wife of Samuel Andrew McFarland, who died in 1981.

Born June 30, 1920, in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Morris and Emma Kate (Shaeffer) Kessler.

Mary was lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, York Street, in Hanover. She served her church as a member of Church Council, Worship and Music Committee, and as a lay reader. Mary graduated from Eichelberger High School in 1938. She later served as a charter member of the YW Wives, Hanover, and as a Den Mother for St. Paul Lutheran Church Cub Pack #102.

Surviving is her son, David B. McFarland and his wife Camille, of McSherrystown; two grandchildren, Bree Heather Humer-Powell and Angela Marie McFarland; and one great-grandson, Brady Powell. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Louise Humer-McFarland; her sister, Ermma Kessler; and two brothers, Ernest Kessler and Merril Kessler.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2007 at the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with Rev. Timothy J. Kielley officiating. Viewing will be held between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
