Barbara S. Bittinger, 82, loving wife of William H. “Bill” Bittinger, Jr. of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community.
Born on Tuesday, November 10, 1931 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Bernard F. and Octavia E. Hassinger Smith. She was a graduate of Waynesboro High School and a 1952 graduate of the Geissinger Nursing School. She served as a registered nurse for Dr. Leon Roos in East Berlin for 24 years.
Barbara was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hanover and had been a member of the former Lohr’s Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, and a charter member of the Hanover Elks BPOE # 763 Ladies Auxiliary and the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post # 14 Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of 53 years, is a son, Michael W. Bittinger and his wife, Tina, of Hanover; two sisters, Melba J. Smith of Hanover and Nancy Swope of Dover; and two grandsons, Brandon and Austin Bittinger.
