Lynn Larry Sheffer, 72, of East Berlin, died Thursday, October 26, 2006, at Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Alice V. (Wisner) Sheffer, who died January 25, 1999.
Born August 16, 1934, in Washington, DC, he was a son of the late Francis and Romaine (Caslow) Sheffer.
Lynn was a woodworker who specialized in making cabinetry. A 1953 graduate of Susquehannock High School, he was active in the Future Farmers of America. He later became involved with the Young Farmers Association of Dover and Bermudian Springs. Lynn loved to garden and farm throughout his life. He raised pigs until the late 1980s and won numerous ribbons at the York Fair for agriculture. Lynn also had a fondness for trains.
Surviving are four sons, Joseph M. Sheffer, of North Branch, MN, Peter L. Sheffer, of Blaine, MN, Nathaniel P. Sheffer, of Dillsburg, PA, and Christopher M. Sheffer, of New York; three daughters, Christina M. Tuhy, of North Branch, MN, Kathleen G. Sprankle, of Woodstock, GA, and Miriam M. Miller, of Westminster, MD; one brother, John Sheffer, of Columbia, MD; five sisters, Sister Mary E. Sheffer, of Philadelphia, PA, Jane Haskall, of Lakebill, MN, Peggy Faddis, of Rodchester, IL, Clair Lerma, of Novato, CA, and Sylvia Sheffer, of Washington, DC; fifteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tony Sheffer.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, November 6, 2006, at the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. The family will receive friends 10:00 AM Monday until the time of the service. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Lynn’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonial Ave., York, PA 17403.
