Obituary
Donald Eugene Brown, Hanover, 86, beloved husband of Gloria E. (Middleton) Brown passed away on December 1, 2015, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Hanover, PA on February 22, 1929, the son of Elmer H. and Beulah I. (Keeney) Brown.
While he was a young boy, Donald’s family moved to Camden, NJ where he attended school and met and graduated with his high school sweetheart, Gloria, from Woodrow Wilson H.S. in Camden, in 1947. They married on Christmas Day of that year and moved to Hanover where they celebrated 67 years of marriage on December 25, 2014.
Donald deeply loved his family and was a devoted husband to Gloria. Together, they were the proud parents of Carol Hopkins of Hanover; Nancy Hartman (Keith), of York; and Donald Brown, Jr. (Kim), of Littlestown. He was a very special “Papaw” to six grandchildren: Laura Washington, Andrew Hartman, Meredith Hopkins, Brett Brown, Katherine Hartman, and Emma Marek; and was a ready playmate to his eight great-grandchildren: Edmund, Ellison, Carter, Adeliese, Delilah, Caroline, Angeline and Wyatt. Donald is also survived by brothers, Marvin Brown, Hanover, and Norman Brown, Dry Run, PA, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Elmer Jr., Francis, Richard, Robert, Nelson, an infant boy, and a sister, Betty.
Donald was a proud veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1992, after 32 years of service. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and farming, as well as more than 50 years of summers at Wildwood, NJ. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fixing things and sitting on the front porch at his farm. He also enjoyed working with his "kids" and others on 4-H projects. Donald was a member of the NRA, the Hanover Historical Society, Adams County Historical Society, Ned Smith Center, and was a life member of the American Legion, Post 14. He was also recognized as a member of the Pennsylvania State Voter Hall of Fame for having voted in more than 50 consecutive general elections.
