Obituary
Jerry J. Tomecek, Sr., 88, of Hanover, passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Hanover Hospital. He was the loving husband of Arlene A. Tomecek, Hanover. Together they shared 66 years of marriage.
He was born June 2, 1929 in Binghamton, New York, the son of the late Joseph and Lottie Tomecek.
Jerry served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy. He was employed with Hanover Shoe for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the McSherrystown Home Association, was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. Most of all Jerry loved spending time with his family and was very proud of his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Arlene, Jerry is survived by his children; Kathy Bowman and husband Mike, Colleyville, TX, Jerry J. Tomecek, Jr. and wife Jody, Abbottstown, Lauri Stevenson and husband Tom, Hanover and Kim Sanders and husband Smoke, Hanover; 13 grandchildren, Shannon Dzivak and husband Ben, Texas, Kristen Ripple and husband Justin, Texas, Brian Tomecek and wife Crystal, Abbottstown, Stephanie Henry and husband Ryan, Abbottstown, Eric Tomecek, Abbottstown, Rachel Tomecek, Hanover, Emily Stevenson, Atlanta, GA, T.J. Stevenson, Evan Stevenson, Abigail Stevenson, Brianne Sanders, Rafe Sanders and Ryan Sanders all of Hanover; and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen Stermensky.
A service to celebrate the life of Jerry Tomecek will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August12, 2017 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover. The family will receive friends and share memories on Friday evening from 6 to 8pm and again on Saturday from 10am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover with full military honors conducted by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Brian and Eric Tomecek, T.J. and Evan Stevenson and Rafe and Ryan Sanders.
