Ray A. Sterner, 81, of Hanover, PA, passed away in his sleep, Sunday, February 25, 2018 in Palm Bay, Florida.
Born July 22, 1936 in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Delphia and Mary Ellen (Wildasin) Sterner. Ray was the loving husband of Sylvia V. (Reck) Sterner with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.
Ray attended Eichelberger High School, class of 1954, Hanover, PA. Ray worked as a truck driver for 50 years with several companies and retired from Frock Brother’s Trucking.
Ray was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Hanover, PA. He was a life member of the Hanover Fire Company No. 1, the Friendship Fire Company, and Grangeville Fire Company, all in Hanover, PA.
Ray’s hobbies included watching Penn State football, NASCAR racing, and attending car races.
In addition to his loving wife, Sylvia, Ray is survived by a son, Alan Sterner and his wife Wanda of Hanover, PA, and daughters, Laurie (Sterner) Zeigler and husband John of Gaines, PA and Sara (Sterner) Hagler and husband David of Palm Bay, FL; grandchildren, Katie (Sterner) Null, Jared Ayers, Joel Ayers, Emily (Sterner) Rhodes, Jeremiah Ayers and Brayden Hagler; eleven great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Sterner of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Sonnie (Reck) Stein and husband Clint. He was preceded in death by his daughter Rae Ann (Sterner) Ayers, brother, Gerald Sterner and two sisters, Thelma (Sterner) Mummert and Dolores (Sterner) Kessler.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held 11 AM, Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Dr. James Ayers and the Rev. Jared Ayers co-officiating. The family will receive friends and share memories from 9:00-11:00 AM, Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
