Obituary
Dr. Stefan Kiril Alexandrov, 71, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife and both children by his side, on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at their home, after a four year battle with cancer.
Born November 17, 1938, in Pazardjik, Bulgaria, he was the son of the late Kiril and Nicolina (Veleva) Alexandrov. Stefan was the loving and devoted husband of Dr. Maria T. (Shishkova) Alexandrov. Together they shared 47 years of marriage.
Having narrowly escaped with their lives from the Communist regime in their native Bulgaria in 1970, Dr. Stefan and his wife, Dr. Maria, came to Hanover in 1973 on a chance visit and soon fell in love with the area and people. Almost immediately, they started their private medical practice that continued until 2005, a practice that gave them great joy to help and heal the sick and ailing.
Passionate about his profession as a caring physician, Dr. Stefan continued to make house calls until he retired. He was also a passionate gardener, accomplished student of world history, and champion swimmer. Gifts from his family's vegetable garden, fruit trees, and flower beds made their way into many friends' homes throughout the years.
Dr. Stefan Alexandrov is survived by his wife, Dr. Maria Alexandrov of Hanover; daughter, Etel Stefan Alexandrov of Virginia Beach, Va.; and son, Kiril Stefan Alexandrov, daughter-in-law, Catherine Alexandrov, and their two and half year old son, Stefan Alexandrov, named in his honor.
Dr. Stefan was preceded in death by his older brother, Dr. Alexander Alexandrov of Pazardjik, Bulgaria. His family loves him deeply and will miss him forever.
A service to celebrate the life of Dr. Stefan K. Alexandrov will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 116 York St., Hanover, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Karin Stork-Whitson officiating, along with the Rev. Julian Hall. Burial will be private. There will be no viewing or visitation prior to the service.
