William H. Spooner, 88, died at home Monday, November 3, 2014.
Born September 12, 1926, in Fountain Hill, PA, he was the son of the late Albert P. and Helen H. (Graham) Spooner. He was the husband of Joan (Kocevar) Spooner, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage until her passing on January 28, 2014.
William was a 1944 graduate of Liberty High School and the Perkiomen School. After serving proudly in the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II, he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering from Lehigh University in 1951, where he was also a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
His engineering career was spent with Bethlehem Mines, where he began in the Looper Program and eventually became Quarry Superintendent in Hanover, a position he retired from in 1989.
William was an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Hanover, PA, where he served as a Junior Warden. He volunteered with the Hanover Council of Churches and was a proud member of the Hanover Lions Club, the Hanover Historical Society, and the Hanover Country Club. He also served on the Hanover Borough Zoning Board and the Hanover Borough Water Commission.
He enjoyed numerous activities and hobbies throughout his full life, including golfing, photography, woodworking, and antique cars. He especially loved spending time with his family.
William is survived by two daughters, Ann Spooner and husband David Welsh of Baltimore, MD, and Elizabeth Stonesifer and husband Jerome of Hanover, PA; one granddaughter, Megan Stonesifer; one sister-in-law, Lynn K. Gaines and husband R. Stockton Gaines of Pacific Palisades, CA; a nephew, William Gaines of San Luis Obispo, CA; a great nephew, Benjamin Gaines, and a great niece, Katrin Gaines.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 890 McCosh St., Hanover, PA,
