Joan A. Feltch, 74 of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care, Monday, February 27, 2012 at her home. She was the wife of the late John R. Feltch, Sr. who died October 16, 2003.
Born September 18, 1937 in Shamokin, PA, she was the only daughter of the late Lester and Elva (Adams) Rhoades
Mrs. Feltch was a graduate from Coal Township High School and Lincoln University with a Master’s Degree in Human Service. Joan was employed as the Center Director for the Community Progress Council for 34 years and also held a life insurance license and real estate license. Her memberships included past president of the Hanover Red Cross Auxiliary, Hanover Red Cross Board of Directors, York Adams Drug and Alcohol Board, York Health Corporation Board, Harold H. Bair Post #14, Hanover, Fraternal order of the Eagles Post # 1406 and numerous other committees in Hanover. She was instrumental in starting the Hanover Health Center, now known as Family First. Joan received recognitions from MET-ED because of her work with some of their programs to help the less fortunate. She was very involved in helping residents, in various ways, who were having problems. Joan enjoyed bowling, puzzles, crocheting, ceramics, riding motorcycles and enjoyed Karate.
Surviving are four daughters and three sons: Sandra Myers and her husband Donald, Abbottstown; Thomas Shurock and his wife Carol, Hanover; Kenneth Shurock and his wife Cindy, Hanover; Penny Hahn and her husband Randy, Hanover; John Feltch and his wife Cindy, Hanover; Linda Feltch and her companion Monroe Laughman, Hanover; Georgianna Weatherall, Charleston, AR; 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of Joan A. Feltch will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover, PA 17331 with Sister Debra McClellan, Spiritual Counsel, VNA/HOSPICE of Hanover and Spring Grove officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Joan to the VNA/HOSPICE, 440 N. Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331
