George C. "Butch" Hoover, 77, of New Oxford, PA, entered into God's eternal care, Friday, June 14, 2013 at home with his loving family by his side.
Born November 25, 1935 in Hanover, PA, George was the son of the late Grover C. and Minnie R. (Becker) Hoover. He was the loving husband of Beverly Ann (Kress) Hoover to whom he was married for 51 years.
George was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA, where he was an active member of the Church Choir, the Hanover Community Singers and St. Matthew's softball team.
George was a veteran of the United States Army, having proudly serving his country from 1958-1962. He earned the rank of Specialist 4th Class and also received the Good Conduct Medal.
George retired in 1995 from Caterpillar Tractor of York, PA after thirty years of service.
George was a member of the NRA, the Green Springs Gun Club, the York Motorcycle Club, the UAW, the American Motor Cycle Association, and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association.
George loved hunting, riding his motorcycle, singing with his church choir and the Hanover Community Singers and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife Beverly, George is survived by three children, Laurie A. Hoover of Dillsburg, PA, Sherry H. Grenzberg and her husband Christopher of Mt. Top, PA and Scott A. Hoover and his wife Tammy of Spring Grove, PA; five grandchildren, Cody S. Hoover, Jared R. Goulden, Adam M. Goulden, Kara E. Grenzberg and Kurt E. Grenzberg; a brother, Glenn H. Hoover of Hanover, PA; and a step-grandson, Zach Snyder. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sarah. E. Goulden; two brothers, Lewis H. Hoover and Bernard Hoover; and two sisters, Pearl (Hoover) Klunk and Mary (Hoover) Nace.
Funeral Services to celebrate and remember George will be held 1 PM, Friday, June 21, 2013 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut Street, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
