Ira S. Shue, 90, of Hanover, PA, entered into God's eternal care Friday evening, September 11, 2009 at the Hanover Hall Nursing Center.
Born April 18, 1919 in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Ira M. and Addie L. (Sterner) Shue. Ira was the loving husband of Mary E. (Routson) Shue to whom he was married for 66 years.
Ira was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, The Harold H. Bair Post 14 American Legion as well as the Hanover VFW Post 2506.
Mr. Shue was a co-owner of the Kessler and Shue Bicycle Shop in Hanover From 1954 until his retirement in 1980. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during WW II, where he was awarded the Eastern African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, Merit Service Plaque, the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, as well as the WW II Victory Medal.
In addition to his wife, Ira is survived by two sons, David W. Shue and his wife, Susan E., and Michael R. Shue both of Hanover, PA, two foster daughters, Wu Chok Kwan, of Kowloon, Hongkong, and Alison Kit Wu, of Canada, 5 grandchildren, Timothy Allan Shue, Thomas Wayne Shue, Christopher David Shue, Michael Joseph Shue and Chad Shue, and nine great-grandchildren, with one more great-grandchild expected in November.
A funeral service to celebrate and remember Ira's life will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church 127 York Street, Hanover, PA with his pastors the Rev. Timothy J. Kielley and the Rev. Tina Minnich officiating. Viewings and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA., as well as from 10 -11 AM, Wednesday, September 15, 2009 at the church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard providing Military Honors.
Serving as casketbearers will be David W. Shue, Timothy A. Shue, Thomas W. Shue, Christopher D. Shue and Daniel M. Hartman.
In lieu of flowers, Contributions in Ira's name may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 127 York Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
