Obituary

Leroy H. Smith, 83, of Hanover, PA, entered into God's eternal care, Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Hanover Hall Nursing Center.

Born March 18, 1931 in Hanover, PA he was the son of the late Walter L. and Geraldine E. (Heist) Smith. Leroy was the fiancAC. of Julian Grote of Jefferson, PA, and the loving husband of the late Dolores M. (Reed) Smith who died December 22, 2003.

Mr. Smith was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA, where he was on the ushering team, a lay leader, communion distributor, greeter, and a member of the property committee.

Leroy was a 1949 graduate of Eichelberger High School and a veteran of the United States Army having served his country proudly from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Smith retired in 1990 from Metropolitan Edison Company, Reading, after 39 years of service, retiring as manager of the Business office.

Leroy is survived by two sons, Bryan L. Smith and his wife, Gayle of Frederick, MD and Gregory W. Smith and his companion Brenda Danfelt of York, PA; two grandsons, Christopher B. Smith of Pompano Beach, FL and Jared A. Smith of Frederick, MD; two sisters, Janet George and June Clapper, both of Hanover; and a brother Gary W. Smith of Hanover. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Frederick.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 127 York Street, Hanover, PA with Rev. Bob Burkhart and Rev. Tina Minnich officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA. Viewings will be from 6 -8 PM, Monday, April 7, 2014 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, and from 1:00-2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Leroy's memory to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 127 York Street, Hanover, PA 17331.

Serving as casketbearers will be: Bryan L. Smith, Gregory W. Smith, Christopher B. Smith and Jared A. Smith. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Cletus Smeak, Arnold Olson and Clarence Blocher.
