John A. “Johnny” Carr, 76, of Hanover, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 25 at UPMC Pinnacle, Harrisburg. He was the husband of Patricia A. “Patsy” (Buckley) Carr and on June 11, 2018 they celebrated 52 years of marriage together.
Born August 31, 1941 in Hanover, he was the son of the late James A. and Edna M. (Reiggle) Carr.
Johnny attended Trinity Church of the Nazarene, Hanover. He served in the PA Army National Guard. Mr. Carr was employed as a machinist for many years retiring from Abbottstown Industries. He was gifted with being able to invent tools for use in his profession. John was “old school” in his ways and liked problem solving. He also enjoyed gardening, cutting wood and was an avid hunter in his earlier years.
In addition to his wife Patsy, Johnny is survived by his children, Michael A. Carr and his fiancée Earlene Gaines of Hanover and Carol A. Scott and her husband Kevin of Arendtsville; his granddaughter Kaitlyn P. Scott; and his siblings, Nelson Carr of Stewartstown, Gary Carr of Chaptico, MD, Robert Carr of Hanover and Karen Corby of Vienna, VA. He was preceded in death by his son Steven M. Carr, his grandson Brandon J. Scott and his sister Joan Fallin.
A service to celebrate the life of Johnny Carr will be held at 11am on Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover with Rev. Gerald R. Dunlap officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be from 6 to 8pm, Thursday evening and again on Friday from 10am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
