Lona A. Mavros, 64, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016 suddenly at St. Joseph Health Center, Warren, OH.
Born September 1, 1951, in Warren, Ohio, she was the daughter of Penny Amorganos and the late Nick Amorganos. She was the loving wife of the late Nicholas T. Mavros, with whom she shared 41 years of marriage.
Mrs. Mavros graduated from Warren Western Reserve High School in 1969 and from York College in York, PA. She was currently working as assistant secretary at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Early in her career she worked as an elementary school teacher at Clearview Elementary School in Hanover, PA. After having children, she devoted herself to raising them while working alongside her husband in the family restaurant The Famous Hot Weiner. She later served as the librarian at York Country Day School in York, PA.
Lona was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Camp Hill, PA, and St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren. Within the church, she was an active member of the Daughters of Penelope and Philoptochos Society. While living in Hanover she volunteered with many civic organizations including, but not limited to, the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) and the Hanover Hospital Auxiliary Board.
In addition to her mother, Lona is survived by three daughters, Gianna (Tom) Fraley of Chesterton, IN, Lee (Chris) Rushton of Boston, MA, Mia (George) Makkas of Dublin, OH, five grandchildren Zoe, Nicholas, Dean, Niko and Leo, a brother Nicholas (Rhonda) Amorganos, and a sister Tina (Steve Soles) Amorganos both of Warren.
Following funeral services in Warren, OH, friends and family in Hanover are invited to a graveside service which will be held 11 AM, Friday, July 29, 2016 at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA with Father Michael Varvarelis officiating.
