Nicholas T. Mavros, 64, of Carlisle, PA, formerly of Hanover, PA, entered into God's eternal care, Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the Abington Hospital, Abington, PA.
Born June 13, 1949 in Hanover, PA, he was the son of Georgia (Karageorge) Mavros and the late E. Tim Mavros. Nick was the loving husband of Lona (Amorganos) Mavros with whom he shared 41 years of marriage.
Nick graduated from St. Francis Prep, Spring Grove, PA in 1967 and from Robert Morris University, Coraopolis, PA in 1970. He served his country in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
Nick was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Camp Hill, PA. He belonged to AHEPA, the American Hellenic Education Progressive Association, where he was a Charter member of the Hanover chapter and District Governor for PA, as well as a member of the Neohoriton Society of America.
Nick was a local restauranteur, having worked as a partner and co-owner of the Famous Hot Weiner in Hanover for over twenty-six years from 1973-1999, the Starlite Diner in York, and Crazy Horse Steakhouse in New Oxford from 2004-2008.
Nick was a former member of the Hanover Rotary Club, a former member of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce where he was a Past President and Businessman of the Year, and a former member of the Hanover Public School Board where he was a Past President. Nick was a member of the Hanover Elks Lodge #763, the Hanover Republican Club, the Hanover VFW Post #2506, a Friend of the Hanover Public Library, and the Hanover Historical Society. He was active in the York County Republican Party, a member of the Hanover Arcadian Club and a former member of the Hanover Country Club.
In addition to his wife, Lona, Nick is survived by three children, Geogianna Fraley and her husband Thomas of Pittsburgh, PA, Penelope Lee Rushton and her husband Christopher of Boston, MA and Mia Makkas and her husband George of Columbus, OH; five grandchildren, Zoe, Nicholas, Dean, Nikolaos and Leo; and two sisters, Constance D. Keriazes and her husband Peter of Hanover, PA and Pauline K. Zozos and husband Dimitri of Harrisburg, PA.
A Funeral Service to celebrate and remember Nick will be held at 11AM, Friday, June 13, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA. Viewings and times to share memories with the family will be held from 5PM-8PM Wednesday, June 11, 2014, with a Prayer Service at 8PM officiated by Metroppolitan Savras of Pittsburgh at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Drive Camp Hill, PA, and from 5 PM to 9 PM, Thursday, June 12, 2014, with a Prayer Service at 9 PM at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc. 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
