Obituary
Born on Friday, September 9, 1921 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Mary Ada Small Arentz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Stonesifer, who died in 1994; a daughter, Cathy E. Stonesifer, who died in 1960; a son, Randall S. Stonesifer, who died in 2017; and a sister, Essa Eunice Knupp.
Ferne graduated from Susquehanna University and was a teacher at Littlestown High School before she began her family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved the beach. A lifelong member of Grace United Church of Christ in Hanover, she played piano, was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. Over the years, Ferne also taught herself how to play the church organ.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey C. Stonesifer and his wife, Karen, Michael A. Stonesifer and his wife, Stephanie; a daughter, Carol J. Wallen and her husband, Dave; nine grandchildren, Heidi Abbe Stonesifer, Jon Stonesifer and his wife, Carla, Shannon Stauffer and her husband, Tim, Jared Stonesifer and his wife, Gwen, Mitchell Stonesifer and his wife, Kendra, Nicklaus Stonesifer and his wife, Cara, Lyndsey Wallen Hegenbarth and her husband, Dave, Kelsey Wallen and her fiancé, Mike Stewardson, Cassie Wallen and her fiancé, Blake Rippeon; and nine great-grandchildren, Mason Stonesifer, Micah Stonesifer, Rachel Stauffer, Lydia Stauffer, Josh Stauffer, Esther Stauffer, Beau Stonesifer, Nora Stonesifer and Luca Stonesifer.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery with a service for immediate family members officiated by The Rev. Scott A. Sager.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Guthrie Memorial Library, 2 Library Place, Hanover, PA 17331.
