Averill L. Simpson

Averill L. "Ab" Simpson, 79, of Hanover, entered into God's eternal care Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Hanover Hospital. He was the loving husband for 47 years of Joyce M. (Fishel) Simpson who died March 29, 2007.
Born October 15, 1927, in Hanover, he was a son of the late Amos Roy and Sadie Leah (Huff) Simpson.
Mr. Simpson was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Hanover. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Averill was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2506, Hanover. He was employed for 28 years with National Can, Hanover, retiring in October of 1988.
His other memberships include the Hanover Eagles #1406, Hanover Moose #227, Hanover Republican Club, New Oxford Social Club, and the Hanover Home Association. Averill was an avid and accomplished roller skater well into his 50's. He also enjoyed dancing and loved going to Polka Festivals with his wife Joyce.
Averill is survived by a daughter, Linda Weller, Hershey; three brothers, Merle Simpson, California, Ken Simpson, Hanover, Bob Simpson, Spring Grove; five sisters, Dorothy Smith, York, Hilda Rabenstine, Gettysburg, Ethel Gebhart, Alice "Dolly" Kehr, and Kathryn LeFevre, all of Hanover. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Oden; and four brothers, Carroll, Arnold, Allen and Norman Simpson.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with the Rev. Kenneth S. Heasley officiating The family will receive friends 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, with full military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Simpson, Jr., Steven LeFevre, Bud Fleshman, Bob Fleshman, Butch Fleshman, and Dale Fishel.
