Shoreland C. "Matt" Matthias, 88, of Eureka, IL, died on Monday, April 26 2010, at Maple Lawn Health Center in Eureka.
Born July 13, 1921, in Hanover, he was the son of the late Clark Monroe and Carrie Yingling Matthias and was also preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Wilma Dawkins Matthias, who passed away in 1993. A 1939 graduate of Eichelberger High School, he graduated from the Peirce School of Business Administration in Philadelphia, PA in 1942. During World War II, he served with the US Army and was stationed in the US and the Philippines.
He enjoyed a 50-year career in accounting and finance. In 1957, while working at Caterpillar, he transferred to Peoria, IL from York, PA. He became a Mason in Patmos Lodge #348 F.&A.M. in Hanover, and later attained the 32nd Degree in Scottish Rite Masonry and joined the Shrine at the Mohammed Temple in Peoria.
Survivors include one son, Jeffrey Matthias of Scottsburg, IN; two daughters, Linda Matthias of Irvine, CA; Cynthia Alexander and her husband, Robert, of Washington, IL; two grandchildren, Elaine Matthias of Brooklyn, NY; Audrey Matthias of Washington, DC.
A funeral service will be held in Eureka, IL, and burial will be held privately in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hanover.
