Cree Johnson Peck, a remarkable soul whose life spanned almost a century, gracefully entered God's eternal care on Sunday, August 6, 2023, surrounded by love and peace at St. Luke's Hospital in Utica, NY. Born on December 25, 1924, in Roxbury, she was the cherished daughter of the late Harry S. Johnson and Annie S. (Funston) Johnson.
Cree was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Ralph Peck, with whom she shared a glorious 60 years of marriage.
Cree was a 1942 graduate of Shippensburg High School and attended Chambersburg Business School.
During WWII she worked at Letterkenny Ordnance Depot, Chambersburg and North Carolina Shipbuilding Co; Wilmington, NC. Later she worked as assistant Librarian at the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg.
Cree was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution (DAR), Daughters of the American Colonists (DAC), Hanover Area Historical Society, Friends of the Guthrie Memorial Library, a former board member of the Hanover Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and a 50 year member of the former Hanover Chapter no. 378 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a longtime volunteer with the Red Cross Blood Service and Meals on Wheels.
Cree enjoyed traveling, antiquing, reading, playing bridge and family gatherings.
Surviving are, three children, David M. Peck and wife Jackie of Lowville, NY, Mark E. Peck and his wife Deb of Hanover, Ann E. Strickland and her husband Leonard “Scooter” of Spring Grove; nine grandchildren, Christopher Peck and Wife Kali. Stephen Peck and wife Suzanne, Lindsey Peck and Fiance Mark, Mark David Peck, Andrea Peck, Eric Glass, Sr., Timothy Glass and his wife Susan, John Bentz, Jr., Amy Croskey and her husband Michael; 10 great grandchildren, Eric, Jr., Sydney, Jared, Tristan, Caleb, Jaxxen, Maverick, Tristan Cree, Charles, and Barrett. Mrs. Peck is also survived by many loving extended family members and friends.
Cree was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
There will be no public viewing. A graveside service to celebrate the life of Cree will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 725 Baltimore St., Hanover with Pastor Josh Rhone officiating.
