Clyde J. Kaltreider, 77 of New Oxford, formerly of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Cross Keys Village Brethren Home Community. He was the loving companion of Mary V. Myers.
Born Friday, December 8, 1939 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Percy E. and Dorothy E. (Brady) Kaltreider.
Clyde was a 1957 graduate of Delone Catholic High School; following high school he worked as a route salesman for various local companies, including, Royal Dairy, Whisler’s Dry Cleaner, Snyder’s of Hanover, Rental Uniform Service and J.A. Myers; his other jobs included, working for Hanover Public School District as a crossing guard and security at athletic events. Mr. Kaltreider was a member of the Knights of Columbus, McSherrystown Home Association, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1406, a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and other local clubs; he loved baseball, football and country music; he was also the past president of Colts Corral #32 and the Raven’s Roost, as well as an authoritative sports historian. Clyde was a loving companion, father, grandfather, and great grandfather; he enjoyed spending time with his family, going to local parades, band concerts, and traveling.
In addition to his companion, Clyde is survived by four children, son, John F. Kaltreider and his wife Linda of Hanover, daughters, Patricia A. Palmer and her husband Brian of Hanover, Jacqueline L. Nickol and her husband Gary of Haymarket, VA, Dee A. Thomas and her fiancé Tim Ketterman of McSherrystown; a brother, Rev. Carl E. Kaltreider of Marion, NC; a sister, Sally A. Weiler and her husband Kenneth of Hanover; two grandchildren, Kyle Palmer, Kayla Dix; two great granddaughters, Montana and Fawn Dix, and his former wife, Ruthetta C. Baldwin of Shade Gap.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Rd, Hanover, PA with Rev. Ryan Fischer officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA and then again on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
