Richard J. “Dick” Rickrode, 80 of Hanover, passed peacefully Monday, August 24, 2009 at Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Nancy A. (Therit) Rickrode for 54 years.
Born April 29, 1929 in Hanover, Richard was a son of the late Vetus and Catherine (Murren) Rickrode.
Richard was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He owned and operated the Terminal Cigar Store in Hanover for 12 years and was then employed with Hanover Toyota more than 10 years retiring in 2008. Richard was a member of the Hanover AMVETS and Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14, Hanover.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Jerry A. Rickrode and his wife Sherry, Hanover, Jay W. Rickrode, New Oxford, Jack R. Rickrode and his wife Denise, Hammonton, NJ; one daughter, Jill A. Biddy, Hanover; one sister, Helen T. Rickrode, Santee, SC; and four grandchildren, Natasha Barnish, Nicole Barnish, Noelle Biddy and Nancee Biddy.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Rickrode will be held at 7:00 pm, Friday, August 28 from the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with Rev. David L. DeLong officiating. The service will be followed by full military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard at the funeral home. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be from 5:30pm until the time of service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be private in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
