William H. Murphy, 94, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Thursday, November 24, 2016 at the Homewood at Plum Creek Nursing Center.
Born December 28, 1921 in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late G.C. “Pat and Blanche (Hostetter) Murphy. He was the loving husband of the late Irene M. (Maxwell) Murphy who died August 6, 2014.
William was a 1939 graduate of Eichelberger High School and Attended Franklin and Marshall College for two years before proudly serving his country in World War II as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, 3 Overseas Service bars, Air Medal and 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon and 1 Bronze Star the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
William retired from Buchart & Horn after many years of service as an architect’s assistant.
William was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Hanover, PA , as well as the Hanover Standardbred Barbershop Chorus.
William is survived by two granddaughters, Jenelle Anselmi of Timonium, MD, Jamie Murphy of Elkridge, MD, and four great grandchildren, Sean, Anthony, Isabella, and Aaron. He was preceded in death by one son, David T. Murphy and three brothers, S. Edward Murphy, Robert Murphy, and David Murphy.
A funeral service to celebrate and remember William’s life will be held 12 PM, Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Chapel at Homewood at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Avenue, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Russell D. Clark officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard providing full Military Honors. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 11 – 12 PM, Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Chapel.
