Born in New Oxford, she was a daughter of the late W. Hafer Miller and Ida (Eckert) Miller, and was wife of the late John H. Bittinger, who died in 1982. Deen graduated from New Oxford High School and was an accomplished artist in oil painting and crafts. She arranged flowers for the Hanover Hospital Gift Shop for 40 years, was a founding member of the Hanover Area Arts Guild and former member of the Hanover Garden Club and YWCA. She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, caring for her many cats and giving art lessons to her grandchildren.
Survivors include three children, John R. Bittinger of Hanover, Suzanne Irons of Northampton and Kathryn J. Regan of Hamden, CT; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Carper of Lampoc, CA. She was preceded in death by her first son, J. Barry Bittinger.
A private graveside service will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
