Elizabeth L. Nickey, 95, of Hanover, PA, entered God’s eternal care, Sunday, March 19, 2017 at SpiriTrust Lutheran The Village at Gettysburg.
Born January 30, 1922 in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur S. and Carrie M. (Rife) Leister. Elizabeth was the loving wife of the late Kenneth B. Nickey who died June 27, 2010.
Elizabeth graduated from Eichelberger High School, Hanover, PA, class of 1940 and attended Thompson Business College, York, PA.
Mrs. Nickey was employed by private industry until 1959 when she began service with the Federal Government. She served as supervisor of the CB Radio Section when the F.C.C. moved the department to Gettysburg. In 1967, the F.C.C. decided to move the International Telecommunications Settlements Division to Gettysburg and she was selected to serve as Chief of that department. She retired in 1990 after 31 years with the Federal Government.
Mrs. Nickey was a life-long member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, where she taught Sunday school for 17 years. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), AARP, and the YWCA Garden Club.
Elizabeth is survived by one sister, Henrietta L. Cooper of Carlisle, PA, several step-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, John W. Leister; and a sister, Gladys L. Ingram.
A funeral service to celebrate and remember Elizabeth’s life will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Kathryn Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
