Obituary
Evelyn L. (Showaker) Sponseller, 78 of Gettysburg, formerly of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Spiritrust Lutheran the Villages at Gettysburg. She was the loving wife of the late Leroy B. “Sponnie” Sponseller, who passed away Friday, January 2, 2015; together they shared 17 years of marriage.
Born Wednesday, December 6, 1939 in Newville, she was a daughter of the late Herbert A. and Grace A. (Jumper) Showaker.
Evelyn was a loving mother and grandmother and great grandmother; she loved her family and cherished the time they spent together; she was a people person and enjoyed traveling and going on bus trips. Evelyn worked at Green Acers in Gettysburg as a cook for 14 years and was a long time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hampton.
Evelyn is survived by six children, Michael J. Dillman of York, Deborah A. Long of Gettysburg, Donald R. Dillman of North Carolina, Karen L. Bowersox of Gettysburg, Diana E. Chronister of Aspers and Jeffrey A. Dillman of Littlestown; two siblings, Richard B. Showaker of Arendtsville, Mary E. Arnolt of Mt. Holly; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband Evelyn, was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter B., Donald, Robert H. and Lynn E. Showaker.
A service to celebrate the life of Evelyn L. (Showaker) Sponseller will be held at 11a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA with Rev. Benjamin Leese officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and then again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover. Pallbearers will be; Hubert Snyder, Jr., Roy Snyder, David Snyder, Matthew Chronister, Jason Chronister, and Joseph Sebold.
