Earl L. Cooper, 91, of Hanover, PA, entered into God's eternal care, Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at the Homewood at Plum Creek Nursing Center.
Born September 13, 1919 in Sinsheim, PA, he was the son of the late George W. and Minerva G. (Myers) Cooper. Earl was the loving husband of Eileen F. (Weber) Cooper with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.
Earl was a 50 year member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Hanover, PA, a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Patmos Blue Lodge for 50 years as well as the Harold H. Bair Post 14 American Legion, Hanover, PA. He was also a member of the local and national A.A.R.P. and a former member of the Brodbecks Band where he played the tenor saxophone.
Earl graduated from Codorus Township High School in the class of 1937. Upon graduation he served his country proudly as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal as well as the Good Conduct Medal.
Upon his return home to Hanover after the war, Earl purchased the car dealership which has been known as Cooper Motors, Inc., since December 26, 1945. He was the Chairman of the Board for the past 65 years.
Earl enjoyed traveling, music, camping, spending time with his family, and his special love was St. Bernards.
In addition to his wife Eileen, Earl is survived by two sons, Kenneth E. Cooper of Hanover, PA, Gary L. Cooper of Arcadia, FL, two daughters, Carolyn A. "Bunny" Harman of Hanover, PA, Kathleen K. Nace of Poughquag, NY, five grandchildren, Rev. Ryan T. Nace, Joel C. Nace, Kyle V. Nace, Patrick A. Cooper, Douglas M. Cooper, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Clyde Cooper and one daughter-in-law, Susan M. Cooper.
A funeral service to celebrate and remember Earl's life will be held 11 AM, Monday, September 20, 2010 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 116 York Street, Hanover, PA, with the Rev. Peg Grzelkowski and the Rev. Ryan Nace officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
