Vernon Dell, 74, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care Friday, Jan 12, 2007 at Hanover Hospital. He was the companion of Norma V. (Rippeon) Small-Dell, who died June 24, 1981.
Born Oct. 11, 1932, in Hanover, he was a son of the late Charles and Margaret E. (Jacobs) Dell.
Mr. Dell was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed for 23 years as a custodian with the Hanover Public School District. He was an avid fan and enjoyed watching professional wrestling on television. Vernon loved animals, especially his cats and dogs. He also loved to eat sugar cookies and ice cream.
His survivors include a son, Vernon A. Small, of Hanover; three daughters, Norma V. Cramer, of Hanover, Cynthia L. Wilson, of Hanover, and Melissa A. Hartlaub, of Littlestown; a stepson, Michael R. Small, of Hanover; three sisters, Arlene Griffith, of Hanover, Margaret Becker, of Hanover, and Gladys Curry, of Spring Grove; two brothers, Donald Dell and James Dell, both of Hanover; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy Small, and seven brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00am Tuesday at the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover with Rev. Scott A. Sager officiating. Viewings will be Monday evening from 7 to 9pm and Tuesday from 10 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, where full military honors will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Nathanael Wilson, Daniel Cramer, Jeremy Graybill, Stephen Livelsberger II, Robert Simons Jr., Steven Myers, and members of the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
