Obituary
On March 3, 2010, Kathryn Henson of Hanover passed away surrounded by her beloved husband and children. Born in Menges Mills, PA on August 16, 1925, Kathryn was the daughter of the late Harvey and Katie (Shutt) Nace. She was a graduate of West York High School and then went on to be employed by the G.C. Murphy Co. In 1960 when her husband established Henson Paving Co., she worked by his side as the company's first bookkeeper and continued in that role for many years, all while caring for her home and family.
Throughout her life, Kathryn was devoted to her husband and children and was an unwavering follower of God. With the heart of a servant she was a church organist for 25 years, taught Sunday School and Bible School, and directed the choir. She was one of the founding members of the Littlestown Chapel where she continued her service as a teacher and the first coordinator of many essential services such as the nursery and prayer chain. Known to many as Kay, or Momma Kay, she was often the person who many turned to for advice, comfort, encouragement or a hug. She was famous for her talent as a cook and she never hesitated to make room at her table for anyone. Kathryn was gifted with a "green thumb" and had an extensive knowledge in growing roses. Her gardening projects were a favorite past-time as she planted seeds to prepare for outdoor planting. In addition to spring planting, she also looked forward to the arrival of hummingbirds and seemed to always have the first sighting among her friends and family.
Kathryn is survived by Carl Henson, her husband of 63 years, and their four children: Judith Wallace and husband Charles, East Berlin; Gary Henson and wife Pamela, Hanover; Gail Greenholt and husband Michael, Hanover; and Robin Partridge and husband Craig, Shiremanstown. She was known as Mom-Mom to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Wendy (Wallace) and husband William McDowell, East Berlin; Julie Greenholt, New Jersey; Michael Greenholt, California; Matthew Greenholt, Florida; Andrew Henson and wife Amy, North Carolina, Joshua Henson and wife Jennifer, Georgia; Joseph Henson, North Carolina; and Sarah Partridge, Shiremanstown; great-grandchildren: Madison, Carley and Macey McDowell; Caleb Henson and Malachi Henson. Also surviving are her brother John Nace, York, her sister Roberta Sipe, Hanover and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Howard Nace and sisters Frances Crone and Pauline Sterner.
