Obituary
Born on Saturday, August 26, 1950 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Edward F. Masenheimer, Jr. and Margel Hutter Masenheimer. He was also preceded in death by a son, Ben Masenheimer. A 1968 graduate of Hanover High School, he later earned his machinist degree by attending night school. He retired in 2018 after a 50 year career as a machinist. Ed was a life member of Bethel United Church of Christ where he held many offices in the Consistory and devoted many hours working on the church building and its grounds. He was a past Chief of Hanover Fire Company No. 1 and the Brushtown Fire Company. A life member of the SAVES Fire Company and Hanover Area Volunteer Fire & Rescue, he held memberships in the York and Adams Counties Firemen’s Association and was currently serving on the Penn Township Civil Service Commission. He was also a member of the Brushtown Athletic Association, Hanover Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 227, Hanover Eagles Aerie # 1406 and was a life member of the McSherrystown Home Association.
Known as “Mr. Turkey Man”, Ed raised turkeys for more than 35 years. He was also known as “Mr. Fix-It” and could repair nearly anything, especially lawn mowers. He enjoyed travelling with his wife, and attending family gatherings and his grandchildren’s school and sporting events.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 50 years, is a daughter, Tina M. Masenheimer Main and her husband, Greg, of New Oxford; two grandchildren, Morgan L. Main and Connor Edward Main; three brothers, James Masenheimer and his wife, Linda A. Masenheimer, David “Whitey” Masenheimer and his wife, Linda L. Masenheimer, and Robert Masenheimer and his wife, Shirley; a sister, Cheryl L. “Toot” Worley and her husband, James; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at Bethel United Church of Christ with Pastor Zoe D’Heedene officiating. The family will receive friends at viewings to be held 4 – 8:00 PM Tuesday at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway in Hanover, and at the church one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel United Church of Christ, 2112 Yingling Drive, Spring Grove, PA 17362 or to Hanover Area Volunteer Fire & Rescue, PO Box 473, Hanover, PA 17331.
