Robert L. Spangler
July 25, 1923 - November 18, 2007
Robert L. Spangler, 84, of New Oxford and formerly of Abbottstown, passed peacefully, Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the Brethren Home Community, New Oxford.
Born July 25, 1923, in Quincy, PA, he was a son of the late Daniel R. and Laura (Bushman) Spangler.
Robert was a member of Christ U.C.C., Littlestown. He was a veteran of WWII and Korea serving two tours of duty in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Spangler enjoyed hunting and bird watching and especially liked his dogs having raised a number of black labs. An avid woodworker, he enjoyed making wooden jewelry boxes. He was self-employed in the wood working field and continued his craft at home even after he retired.
Robert is survived by two sisters, Betty Huls, of Sylmar, CA, and Dorothy Knoch, of Clovis, CA; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Spangler, of Hanover; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Keller; and three brothers, Melvin, Jay, and Edgar Spangler.
The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2007 at the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with Pastor Craig E. Arentz officiating. The viewing will be Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where full military rites will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
