Manfred Bernhard Arnold, 87, of Hanover and formerly of Glenville, entered into God’s eternal care on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017 at home. He was the loving husband of Fridlind Ida (Schueppel) Arnold for 60 years.
Born February 19, 1930 in Stettin, Germany he was the son of the late Max and Emma Louise (Barkemeyer) Arnold.
Manfred was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Hanover. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He later graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in physics. Mr. Arnold then taught electronics for Westinghouse for more than 35 years retiring in 1993. Manfred enjoyed playing chess and ping pong and gardening at the family farm in Glenville. He was also a member of the Schlaraffia Club of Washington D.C., a German speaking group of men.
In addition to his wife Fridlind, Manfred is survived by his daughters, Garnet-Maria Mummert of Glenville and Dorothea Alexander of Charleston, S.C.; his brother, Helmut Arnold of Iowa City, Iowa; his sister, Renate Grewe of Tulsa Oklahoma; and four grandchildren, Daniel Mummert, J.R. Mummert, Ben Alexander and Eve Alexander . He was preceded in death by his sister Dorothea Persson.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Manfred Arnold will be held Monday, October 30, 2017 at 1:00pm at First United Methodist Church, 200 Frederick St., Hanover, PA 17331 with Pastor Josh Rhone officiating. A time to express condolences and share memories with the family will be from 12 noon until the time of the service at church. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
