Richard E. Sanders, 87, of Hanover, husband of Nancy Crabbs Sanders, entered into God’s eternal care on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at UPMC Pinnacle Hanover Hospital.
Born on Wednesday, August 16, 1933 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Merl C. and Pauline Leppo Sanders. A 1951 graduate of Eichelberger High School, he proudly served his country with the US Army during the Korean War. Richard retired from Black & Decker after 30 years of service and was later employed by the Hanover Public School District. He also did maintenance work for Penn Township and Homewood at Plum Creek. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, a life member of the VFW Post # 2506, and a former member of the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #77 and the Hanover Republican Club. In their younger years, Richard and Nancy enjoyed traveling.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 63 years, is his daughter, Sandra Sanders; a sister, Jacqueline Zepp, both of Hanover; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Merle, Raymond and Laverne “Sonny” Sanders.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Julian E. Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
