Paul was born on June 29, 1923 in Summit Hill, Pennsylvania, to Angiola Caterina D’uva Pucillo and Paul Joseph Pucillo, who had immigrated to the U.S. from Italy. Paul was the sixth of their seven children. Paul’s father was born in Castello Del Lago (Castle of the Lake or Chateau of the Lake) in Italy in 1888 and died in 1935 in Summit Hill, Pennsylvania. His mother, who used the name “Angelina” after her arrival in America, was born in Commune D. Santa Croce Del Sanno, Italy in 1889. She died in 1966 in Summit Hill.
Paul honorably served his country during World War II as a First Quartermaster SV in the United States Navy. He deployed on five vessels. After his military service, he attended Penn State, married Jeanette Catherine Valitsky of Coaldale, PA, and moved to Washington, D.C. where he earned a degree in Political Science in 1951 from George Washington University. Paul developed a long and successful career as a surgical instrument representative with Edward Weck & Company which subsequently became part of Bristol Myers Squibb.
Paul is survived by his wife of 31 years, Marilyn Murphy Pucillo, of Hanover, PA. He is survived by his four children with his former wife, Jeanette (Valitsky) Ryba of Germantown, MD, daughter of Severin Valitsky and Verna Artim Valitsky of Coaldale, PA: Carolyn Stinson and her husband Kenneth of Reisterstown, MD; David T. Pucillo of Germantown, MD; Joanne M. Toueg of Midlothian, VA; and Valerie A. Stratton and her husband Woodrow of New Oxford, PA. Paul is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Among his surviving nieces and nephews are Ann Marie Whitenight, of Summit Hill, PA, and James C. Ferrari, of Lebanon, PA.
