Born on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13, 1945 in New Kensington, she was the daughter of the late Frederick E. and Dorothy Hankey Sutter. Mrs. Volk was a 1963 graduate of Plum High School in Plum Borough, PA and was formerly employed as a customer service representative for Hanover Direct, Inc.
Marlene was a devoted wife, mother and “Gigi”, she enjoyed being a homemaker and was an avid reader who enjoyed traveling. She will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, John V. Volk; three children, Michalene M. Volk of Allentown, Jamie A. Stoner and her husband, Andrew, of New Oxford, and John M. Volk and his wife, Carolyn, of Georgetown, CO; and a granddaughter, Abigail R. Stoner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Thursday, March 5, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover celebrated by The Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held from 6 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, with a prayer service at 8 pm, at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover.
As Marlene was an avid supporter of cancer research, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403.
