Mary J. Wickson, 74, of Hanover, PA was received into God’s loving arms on July 11, 2017, at her residence in the care of her loving husband, Daniel.
Mary was born on July 25, 1942 in Hanover, PA to the late Bettye J. (Kerchner) and the late Raymond S. Roser. She was the step-daughter of the late William R. (Pop) Myers. She was the loving wife of Daniel R. Wickson, sharing 43 years of marriage.
Mary attended Littlestown High School. She worked at the Children’s Development Center in Abbottstown for 29 years working with the developmentally disabled children. Mary achieved a personal satisfaction of giving back to others in need.
One of Mary’s favorite pastimes was playing Bingo at St. Vincent’s Church and Midway Fire Company where she was surrounded by many friends who were like a “second family”. Mary enjoyed close family ties and hosted and celebrated many family picnics.
Mary was very talented doing needlepoint on plastic canvas. She created villages and seasonal decorations. When her work was submitted to York Fair, she won several blue ribbons. Her family was often gifted with her beautiful creations.
In addition to her husband, Daniel, Mary is survived by her daughter, Julie Myers and her husband, Michael of Spring Grove, 2 granddaughters, Jennifer Smith and her husband Christopher of Dallastown and Tanya Myers and fiancee Blake Kitchen of Manhattan, Kansas 2 sisters, Nancy Bisset of New Oxford and Joy Strausbaugh of Spring Grove and sister-in-law Vicky Roser of Hanover. Mary was recently predeceased by her loving son, Dale V. Shaffer Jr. and her brother, Kenneth R. Roser, Sr. and a nephew, John W. Bisset.
Following cremation, a visitation will be held at Kenworthy Funeral Home, 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA, on July 26th, 2017 from 6 to 7:30 PM, followed by a memorial service to celebrate her life at 7:30 PM. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
