Elizabeth J. S. “Lil” Hoke, 88, of Hanover, passed peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Homewood at Plum Creek. She was the wife, for 64 years, of Chester J. “Chet” Hoke, Jr. who died October 16, 2014.
Born September 10, 1929 in Nyack, N.Y. she was the daughter of the late Harry and Robina Paton (Moore-Smith) Schek.
Mrs. Hoke was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover where she was very active serving on a number of committees. She helped with Vacation Bible School, was in the Bell Choir and was the treasurer of ELCA Women’s group. Lil was a graduate of Wilson College and was a member of Hanover YWCA, the Knitter’s Guild of York, Dog Training Club of York, 4H Club of York, and the ELNA Sewing Club of Lancaster. She also enjoyed horseback riding, sewing, knitting, cooking, gardening, canning and especially loved spending time with her loving family.
Lil is survived by her six children; Jeannette Lachat and her husband Ruben Ortiz of Gaithersburg, MD, Jim Hoke of Hanover, Dave Hoke of Boca Raton, FL, Lisa Riband and her husband Anthony of Doylestown, Susan Fogarty and her husband Seamus of Hanover and Jennifer Minushkin and her husband Jeff of Herndon, VA; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sarah “Sally” Mueller.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Elizabeth “Lil” Hoke will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut St., Hanover, PA with Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating. A time to share memories with the family will be from 10am until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. Final committal will be immediately following the service in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
In lieu of Flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Elizabeth “Lil” Hoke to Homewood at Plum Creek’s Benevolent Fund, 425 Westminster Ave., Hanover, PA 17331 or to the charity of one’s choice.
