Born January 28,1926 in Baltimore MD, he was a son of the late Joseph B. Stephens,Sr. and Eva E. Lee Stephens. He was married to Gertrude Crumbie Simmons for 23 years. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. A man of wisdom and intelligence, he taught himself how to fix watches.
He is survived by a son, Edward "Chip" Stephens and his wife, Sharon, of Hanover; three grandchildren, Shane Stephens, Misty Feathers and Zechariah "Zeke" Stephens; five great grandaughters, Chanel Worley, Faith Feathers, GraceAnne Feathers, Lilian Feathers,Chloe Stephens; one great grandson, Zion Stephens; a sister Geraldine Rhoten of Frederick Md; three nephews; and four nieces. He was precedded in death by a brother Joseph B. Stephens Jr.
The funeral will be held at 11:00am Thursday, January 24,2013 at Panebaker Funeral Home Inc, 311 Broadway,Hanover. The burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military graveside rites being rendered by York County Verterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
