James Edward Mitchell, 84 of Hanover, PA died Wednesday, January 29, 2014 in Hanover, PA.
Born October 29, 1929 in Hanover, PA, he was the son of the late Mary Delphine Mitchell. He was the husband of Doris A. Burget Mitchell, his wife of 43 years.
He served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean Conflict with the 571st Engineer Aviation. In addition, he served in the United States Navy Reserves. He was employed with the Baltimore City Police Department for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his son James Martin Mitchell; his daughter Mary Mitchell Harrell; his eight stepchildren; his half brother Harry Mumma; his 21 grandchildren; his 26 great grandchildren; and his five great great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester with the funeral liturgy 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Avenue, Hanover, PA with the Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons officiating.
Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover with Military Honors.
