Obituary
Donald E. Fiery, age 83, passed away on January 7, 2013 with his family by his side. Born December 1, 1929 in Clear Spring, MD, he was the son of the late Frisby Tilghman Fiery, Jr. and the late Grace Mildred Ernst Fiery. Living most of his early years in Charles Town, WV, he graduated from West Virginia University with a B.S. Degree and accepted a commission as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He served in Korea with the 3rd Air Rescue Squadron. Upon his return to the states he remained in the Reserves, resigning as a Captain. In 1953, he began a lifetime career with Miller Chemical and Fertilizer Corporation, initially working as a salesman and ultimately becoming President and Chairman of the Board. He retired in 1999.
Mr. Fiery was active in many phases of community service: member and Past President of the Hanover Rotary Club, District Representative, Zone Chairman for Polio Plus Campaign, Sec't/Treasurer of the International Rotary on Stamps Fellowship and Editor of the Newsletter; Member and Past President of the Hanover School Board; member of the boards of the National Central Bank, Hanover General Hospital, WITF Public TV-Radio, the Hanover Senior Citizens Center, and the Hanover Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the Advisory Board of The Brethren Home and participated as Chairman of the Hanover Area United Way Campaign. He was also a member of the local Arcadian Club, Republican Club, and the Hanover Country Club.
Mr. Fiery was listed in Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in Commerce and Industry and Who's Who in Finance and Industry.
Mr. Fiery was preceded in death by Mary Ann, his wife of 55 years. He is survived by three children; Carolyn F. Shearer and husband Kevin of Ellicott City, MD, Michael D. Fiery and wife Lynn of Hanover, Leisl F. Staub of Hanover: five grandsons; Bradley James Shearer, Nathan Donald Shearer, Brian Michael Shearer, Logan Ellis Fiery and Sean Michael Fiery.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the family's church, St. Matthew's Lutheran, 30 W. Chestnut Street, Hanover, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Hanover Rotary Club, for Rotary Foundation International, PO Box 18, Hanover, PA 17331, Sweet Charities Cancer Patient Fund, 1150 Carlisle Street, PMB #154, Hanover, PA 17331, or The Hospice Program of the Hanover and Spring Grove VNA, 440 N. Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
