Obituary
Emma Jean Toomey Weikert, 86, of Hanover, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at her home.
Born August 11, 1936 in West Jefferson, NC, she was a daughter of the late Granville A. and Mary V. (Taylor) Phillips.
Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother sister and friend; she cherished her family and loved spending as much time with them as she could. Jean graduated from West Manchester High School (currently North Carroll High School) in Manchester, MD in 1955. She then went on to marry her husband, Ted and started their family. For the majority of her life, Jean was a wonderful homemaker and took pride in being at home and raising her children. Once her youngest became a teenager, Jean started working at places including a greenhouse and Hanover Hospital. Jean was a deeply caring woman and someone her family could always turn to for advice and support in their hard times. Mrs. Weikert enjoyed playing bingo, traveling, going out to eat with friends and family, but most of all she enjoyed just being with her family.
Jean is survived by, five children, a son Ted M. Toomey and his wife Barb of Hanover; four daughters, Sharon J. (Toomey) Maust and her husband Bill of York Springs, Shirley A. (Toomey) Miller and her husband Jeff of East Berlin, Julie L. (Toomey) Cornbower of Gettysburg, Lori S. (Toomey) Wallen and her husband Trevor Reck of East Berlin; three siblings, Claudine Spence of Woodstock, VA, Robert Phillips and his wife Hazel of Hanover, Shirley Miller and her husband Melvin “PeeWee” of Hampstead, MD; a sister-in-law Elaine Phillips of New Oxford; 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Jean is also survived by many loving extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her first husband Ted F. Toomey; her second husband, Robert Weikert; a brother, Thomas G. Phillips and a brother-in-law, Edward J. “EJ” Spence.
