George “Rick” Comer, 66, of York, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Sandy D. (Bennett) Comer.
Born July 12, 1950 in Havre de Grace, MD, he was a son of the late Odis Gentry and Elenora Myrtle (Jones) Comer.
In addition to his wife, Rick is survived by a daughter, Patricia Bitting and her husband Kristopher of York Haven; son Michael Comer of California (children from former wife Sandra K. Leader); three step sons, Joel Papu of Cherry Hill, NJ, Johnathan and Benjamin Papu both of York; granddaughter, Riley Comer; step grandchildren, Zachary Malone, Lauren and Brylee Bitting; five siblings, Steve Comer and his wife Marcia, Nancy Layton and her husband Dale, Barb Hafer and her husband Jeff, Cheryl Smith and her husband Jeff, and Odis “Chip” Comer; Rick is also survived by many other loving family members and friends.
Rick graduated from Kennard Dale High School in 1968. Rick owned and operated Wiley’s Food Market from 1978 to 1988. Then he transitioned to school bus transportation where he was the Director of Support Services for the South-Eastern School District from 1988 to 1990, a terminal manager for Reliance Motor Coach from 1990 to 2007 and Durham School Services from 2007 to 2014. Rick was also a PA certified school bus instructor-coordinator and third party examiner which he greatly enjoyed. Rick also loved the Lord, school bus collecting, and softball.
