Thomas W. “Tom” Nelson, 63 of Hanover, passed peacefully on Monday, May 26, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Carol A. (Bunty) Nelson, his wife of 40 years.
He was born March 13, 1951 in Palmyra, the son of the late James D. and Agnes (Doyle) Nelson.
Tom graduated from Biglerville High School and was a truck driver for over 40 years. He drove for A.D. Frey, Hanover, KBS Trucking, Thomasville, Sheffer Beer Distributor, York, Paul Miller Trucking, Spring Grove and Schumaker Trucking, Dillsburg. He was a member of New Hope Faith Community, Hanover, the Hanover Eagles, the Hanover Moose and the Hanover Amvets. Tom was a strong family man who enjoyed camping and NASCAR racing, especially Bobby Labonte.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Matthew Nelson and wife Dana, East Berlin, Tammy Vito and husband Anthony, Hanover and Nicole Rollman and husband Lee, Hanover; brothers, James D. Nelson, II and wife Donna, Manchester, David Nelson and wife Lori, Biglerville and Michael Nelson and wife Brenda, Biglerville; sister, Patricia Walck and husband Don, Biglerville and seven grandchildren, Lucca, Austin, Adeline, Isabella, Brynna, Emma and Anthony, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11 AM at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover with Rev. Timothy J. Kielley officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Thursday from 6 to 9 PM at the funeral home and again on Friday from 10 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.
