Thomas T. Markle, Sr., 95, of Hanover, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Homewood at Plum Creek.
Born on November 12, 1917 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Calvin E.J. and Clara M. Jacobs Markle and husband of the late Thelma Whisler Markle, who died in 2006. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Leo, Clifford and Burnell Markle and his only sister, Helen Reeder.
A 1935 graduate of Eichelberger High School, he was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II. He was employed by George Braun Construction for over 35 years and built many homes in the Hanover area. A member of Grace United Church of Christ, he enjoyed pitching horseshoes.
Surviving him are his children, Mary Fowler and her husband, Jerry; Thomas T. Markle, Jr. and his wife, Judy, all of Hanover; William Markle and his wife, Linda of Gettysburg; David Markle and his wife, Lori, of McSherrystown; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 am Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Dr. Bruce P. Bouchard officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military graveside rites being rendered by Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
