Pauline M. Altland

May 2, 1930 - January 14, 2007

Pauline M. (Leese-Stambaugh) Altland, 76, of Hanover, died Sunday, January 14, 2007, at her residence. She was the wife of Charles L. Stambaugh, who died in 2002.

Born May 2, 1930, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Milton J.R. and Nora Marie (Steich) Leese.

Polly retired from Coldwell Banker as a realtor after working numerous jobs throughout the Hanover area. In the mid-1960’s, she became the first female dispatcher for the Hanover Police. An avid reader, Polly kept a detailed list of the hundreds of books she’d read throughout her life. She also enjoyed watching movies and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens.

Surviving are two sons, James Stambaugh and his wife Krista, and Eric Stambaugh and his wife Elizabeth, both of York; one daughter, Susan K. Blackwell, of Lancaster; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, M. Dean Leese.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover. There will be no public viewing. The Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, is assisting the family with arrangements.
