Ethelyn Annastasia "Sis" (Gebhart) Helwig, 87, of Hanover, PA, entered into God's eternal care, Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011, at Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover, PA.
Born December 9th, 1923, in Hanover, PA, she was the daughter of the late Gregory and Helen (Brown) Gebhart. Ethelyn was the loving wife of the late Sterling Lewis Helwig who died January 26th, 2000, and to whom she was married for thirty-five years.
Ethelyn was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Hanover, PA.
Ethelyn was a 1941 graduate of Delone Catholic High School and was in the 1st graduating class. She enjoyed crafts, flowers, doll-making and collecting.
Ethelyn was the first secretary at Delone Catholic High School. She also worked in the office at Middleburg Sewing Factory, Gladfelters in Spring Grove, and H.O. Toors. Ethelyn gave lesssons at the former Singer Store and also worked at Nace's Appliance Store for many years.
Ethelyn is survived by two daughters, Yvonne "Bonnie" Klunk Staub of Hanover, PA, and Linda Klunk Dotson, of Big Pine Key, FL; four grandchildren; Christopher Smith, Tina Raber, Stephanie Bankert, and Michele Dotson, ten great-grandchildren; 1 great great grandson, two brothers, Cyprian "Buzz"Gebhart of Hanover, PA, Gregory Gebhart, Jr. of Orland, California; and one sister, Mary Britcher of Hanover, PA. She was preceded in death by one brother Stephen Gebhart.
A graveside service to celebrate and remember Ethelyn's life will be held 11 AM, Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Baltimore Street, Hanover, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Ethelyn may be made to
The Homewood at Plum Creek Benevolence Fund, 425 Westminster Avenue, Hanover, PA 17331.
